Tutors are responsible for assisting fellow students with course materials and study skills to help them in their pursuit of academic success. Duties: Individual tutoring sessions (45-60 mins) are the site of peer-to-peer dialogue which may include reviewing course texts and materials, students' writing, or class notes; encouraging critical thinking and analysis through a process of questioning; and supporting independent thought and creative expression. Qualifications: Tutors must be comfortable working with a diverse, multicultural clientele and staff. All training takes place during scheduled shifts, and no outside work is expected. Tutors typically work 9-10 hours per week. Evening and/or weekend hours may be assigned. We expect our tutors to model successful academic behaviors; therefore, they must demonstrate a history of academic success by earning a B+ or higher in any courses they wish to tutor and maintaining an overall GPA of 3.0 or better. Any student can apply to be a tutor, but we request incoming freshman have significant dual enrollment or AP/IB course experience. Student assistants are needed who are interested in being a member of the support team for either the Infant, Toddler, or Preschool programs at the CSC. This entails assisting the full-time teacher in all daily tasks that go together to provide a safe, healthy, positive learning environment for the children. Student workers will be under the supervisor of a Child Care Specialist, Teacher 1, and/or Master Teacher. Responsibilities: stay within sight, sound, and easy reach of the children at all times; housekeeping tasks are undertaken only after attending to immediate needs of the children; communicate with other adults about issues related to the care of the children; supervise/encourage outdoor play; strive to provide appropriate, responsive, respectful care-giving; demonstrate a positive attitude; follow licensing and NAEYC accreditation guidelines for the care of young children, and follow all duties as assigned by CSC staff.
